Take Advantage Of Your Jeep This Summer In California’s Mountains

The summer is all about being outside basking in the beautiful weather and California's remarkable landscapes. The Jeep lineup has so much to offer including capable utility vehicles with all wheel-drive. While It's possible to explore California  any time of the year, in any type of weather condition, you'll get the most out of your trips during the summer. When you have a Jeep you can take advantage of the best roads in California that are made of dirt, mud and snow. Most of these routes don't have a name and are hidden very well. These are the best roads because you'll avoid tourists during the holiday weekends, won't get stuck in any traffic, and experience the beauty California has to offer.
Jeep Summer

When you step away from the popular highways and canyons you'll notice how unbelievably quiet it becomes, you only hear the wildlife in the forest and maybe a waterfall if you're in the right area. This is a special moment that is extremely relaxing, its hard to explain unless you experience it for yourself. If you want to get out of your vehicle and take some amazing video or photographs its no problem. These dirt roads are rarely used and you have the freedom to stop and go when you please. Just be careful not to stop on any dry brush, there is a possibility of starting a fire if you stay for too long. There are thousand of miles of trails just waiting to be driven on, what are you waiting for?

So where does one start when looking for these roads that are unknown to the common man? The roads that lead you away from the dense population, past the camping grounds, and farther into the wild than most people dare to go? Well you'll want to start with the right vehicle so you don't get stuck in the middle of nowhere. Having to walk away from your vehicle to find help or even find cell service is a real problem that shouldn't be taken lightly. Having a 4x4 vehicle is the safest bet but not mandatory, most roads will be accessible with a 2WD vehicle. If you know the limits of your vehicle and play it safe you won't have much to worry about.

Once you have that all sorted out you'll want to pick a destination, are you interested in a drive along the coast over looking the ocean? Maybe you're a country person that enjoys steam crossings and foothills or more of a mountain person that enjoys dense forest and waterfalls. Whatever you're in the mood for make sure you plan ahead before you enter unfamiliar territory. Here are a few tips to help you along the way.

  • Most back roads in California are just wide enough for one vehicle, pass corners slowly and always be focused.
  • If you don't feel comfortable driving on the path you choose, turn around and find another route.
  • Always watch out for mud and make sure to check its depth.
  • Never speed on dirt roads, a small bump can cause your vehicle to lose control.
  • Always bring emergency supplies when traveling on back roads: Shovels, water proof matches, extra water, batteries.
  • Traveling at night is very dangerous. Try to avoid this if possible.
